Tucked just off the main event space, the Green Room at Tinker House is one of our favorite parts of the building. During weddings it becomes a light-filled bridal suite. For corporate and nonprofit events, it serves as a VIP lounge, speaker-ready room, or quiet retreat. However you use it, the Green Room offers a calm, private space that’s still just a few steps away from the energy of your event.

Designed for Getting Ready & Resetting

The Green Room was created to feel like a comfortable city apartment rather than a back hallway. Houseplants, soft seating, and warm lighting make it a natural place to relax, touch up makeup, and gather with your closest people before guests arrive. Large windows bring in soft, flattering light for photos and final details.

On wedding days, couples often use the Green Room for getting ready, first looks with family and friends, and a quiet moment together before walking into the ceremony or reception upstairs.

Beyond its comfortable seating and natural light, the Green Room also reflects the creative spirit of Tinker House through custom work from two local artisans. Their craftsmanship appears throughout the building and brings intention and warmth into the space.

Thoughtful Details & Local Craftsmanship

One of the most striking features on the second floor is the ash-wood sliding door crafted by Loran Bohall of Bohall Design & Fabrication. The door is both functional and artistic—built from two reclaimed ash slabs that hold deep local history. These slabs came from two of the last ash trees removed in Indianapolis following widespread loss caused by the emerald ash borer . Their preservation at Tinker House brings both beauty and a meaningful connection to the city’s natural heritage.

Nearby, a custom rope-light installation by Sheena Birt of Color Story Studio brings warmth, texture, and soft ambient glow into the venue. Her work appears in multiple areas of the building, adding both artistry and a sense of place to the environment.

Together, these locally crafted details reflect how we approach the entire building—honoring history while partnering with Indianapolis makers to bring thoughtful, modern design to Tinker House.

A Balcony With Café Lights & Skyline Views

While the Green Room is located on the southeast corner of the second floor, our outdoor veranda sits on the opposite side of the venue — the southwest corner. This small balcony is strung with café lights and overlooks the up-and-coming downtown Indianapolis skyline.

Guests often step outside during events for fresh air, conversation, or photos. It’s a completely separate space from the Green Room but adds another unique moment to the upstairs layout.

More Than a Bridal Suite

While the Green Room is often used as a bridal suite, it plays an important role in other types of events as well. Corporate clients use it as a speaker-ready room, a sponsor lounge, or a quiet place for leadership to gather. Nonprofit partners appreciate having a private space for honorees, board members, or performers to prepare.

Because the room sits so close to the main event space, guests can move in and out easily without missing key moments. It’s close enough to feel connected, but separate enough to provide privacy when you need it.
